PRESS RELEASE - PLEASE READ

 

After seventy-five years of serving churches and individuals in the Maritimes and beyond, it is with deep regret that the Board of Directors of Mission La Bonne Nouvelle announce the closing of La Bonne Nouvelle Bookstore, 251 St. George Street, Moncton, NB.

 

The goal of Mission La Bonne Nouvelle has been to support French evangelism in our region, largely through the profits from the La Bonne Nouvelle Bookstore.

 

The challenges of high transportation costs, closure of a major Canadian distributor leading to increased US purchasing, the lower value of the Canadian dollar, increased competition via internet and other stores to reduce prices along with the current economic situation have all combined. These factors led the Board to the decision to conclude the business of La Bonne Nouvelle Bookstore.

 

Over the last number of years, major efforts were made to partner with local groups through a variety of conferences, special events and activities such as Renovaré, Maximum Impact, denominational events, etc. as well as becoming a major ticket outlet for the area. Building renovations have permitted an increase in the number of apartment rentals. Despite these efforts, the challenges have become too great to permit the bookstore to continue.

 

Christine Nadeau, Chair of the Board said, “It is hard to see this ministry end. On behalf of the French Baptist Churches we commend the staff for putting their whole heart into every day’s work. They have not only supported French evangelism but ministered to countless churches and individuals over the years.”

 

La Bonne Nouvelle Bookstore will be clearing inventory through a ‘Closing Sale’ which will start Friday, June 12, 2009 and the store will close effective June 20, 2009.
